The New & Improved “Start Writing” Page

Say goodbye to Editor 2.0, and say hello to our improved Start Writing Page (and much more)! When you click “Write” on the top right corner, you’ll see 3 ways to start a new draft! You can either start from a blank page by using our beloved Editor 3.0, import a story from an existing URL, or utilize our many writing templates!

All about those templates

We’ve gone ahead and pinned our best 12 templates up top, from current writing contest templates, to this fun guide on tech news commentary, to this cover letter generator. You can utilize the search bar above to find any template, or filter the templates by “new” and “popular”. Editors consistently add new templates for your perusal, so we recommend taking advantage of that feature. But we know you love learning from the wisdom of the crowd, so the “Popular” filter is there too. You can see how many drafts are generated per each template next to the ❤️on top of each template So, if you’re out of ideas, feel free to pick a template out of our selection and type away.

Sshhhh: for your ears only, the ability to generate a template used by others will soon be available to all writers of HackerNoon. Stay tuned <3 n

Once on the draft page, you’ll also notice that draft notes have also been converted into 2 different contact editing options:

  • Direct Messages: this function allows you to initiate conversations with HackerNoon editors and get assistance more directly. Here you can bring draft-related questions, such as emails, stories, trending, etc.

  • Sticky Notes: these fun notes can be placed anywhere on a draft and used to help you organize your thoughts as you go through your story.

Free Commenting 4 All Writers!

If you’re a writer at HackerNoon, your perks just got bigger. Now, your comments are auto-approved, meaning, no more waiting in line for our editors' green light. Similarly, you can now approve and deny comments on your story pages so you don’t have to deal with haters.

Here’s what it looks like:

Comments on polls have also been added to the homepage! To see it, visit HackerNoon’s, scroll down to our poll of the week, and after submitting your vote, you’ll see a comment section appear immediately below the poll.
